The Jamaica Statistical Society recently hosted its Mini-Symposium Event on the UWI Mona Campus. The event was a resounding success, attracting people from several entities such as the Ministry of Transport and Minining, National Works Agency and the National Council on Drug Abuse, just to name a few. The theme "Shaping Jamaiaca's Road Safety Policy Using Statistics" paved the way for the nature of our presentations which featured guests such as the Head of the JCF, SSP Calvin Allen, Director of the Road Safety Unit, Mr. Kenute Hare and the Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, among others. The JSS also had a team of panellists that participated in a very engaging discussion on how the information gathered from their sector can be used to further develop road safety policies in Jamaica. All participants certainly gained additional knowledge on road safety policies and how they can be developed using statistics garnered from various divisions.
